August 4th, 2010

Lot of people these days are requesting Help Me Stop Snoring. Those days are gone when snoring people where considered kings. Now it just irritates people sleeping around with you. Recently my family complained about the very same fact to me. So I thought to write down this post which can help me stop snoring and indirectly will help all those who snore through their sleeps.

Help Me Stop Snoring post is all about giving you the right information on why people snore and how to stop snoring.

Why People Snore? First step in Help Me Stop Snoring is to check out why people snore. Snoring is the sound which comes when a sleeping person is breathing. This is mainly caused because the air does not get sufficient passage to pass through the nose and throat to reach the lungs/heart. Let us check out the reasons why the nasal passage or the throat gateway for the exhale/inhale narrows.

  • Sleeping Posturehowtostopsnoring
  • Age
  • Alcohol
  • Obesity
  • Nasal Blockage
  • Gender
  • Heredity

Tips To Stop Snoring. Let us consider the above factors and dissect them to see how we can do to free the nasal passage as much as possible.

    • Sleeping Posture

Don’t sleep on the back, instead sleep on sides or better get a peaceful snore free  sleep by sleeping on your stomach [ Pregnant Women please ignore this point ].  Sleeping on the back frees the throat flesh, which might get into the airway.

        • Age

There is no solution to this, as you grow older all the muscles of our body become flabby as they loose their elasticity.

            • Alcohol

Avoid taking alcohol anytime before bed time. As alcohol has a tendency to relax the throat muscles.

                • Obesity

Obese people have been found to have unnecessary fatty tissue in the throat region, which leads to snoring. To avoid this one should think of loosing weight.

                    • Nasal Blockage

This can be caused because of sinus, cold or allergies. One should better cure these first to get a free nasal blockage and avoid snoring.

                        • Heredity

Some people tend to inherit short throat passages which can’t be cured and is natural.

                            • Gender

It has been observed that the men to women snoring ratio is 14/40. What I mean is, 40% men are found to snore compared to 14% of women.

                              Hair Loss Due To Dandruff

                              August 3rd, 2010

                              Hair Loss Due To Dandruff

Many people have questions like can there be a hair loss due to dandruff? This is not a great arrow taking its target kind of thing to understand. Its quite simple to think logically as well. First of all let me clear that scientists have ruled out all the possibility of dandruff leading to hair loss. Then why do people who have dandruff complain of hair loss and say that they are suffering hair loss due to dandruff.

About 40% of the population face the problem of dandruff which is nothing but the  white flakes and dead skin getting accumulated over a period of time on the scalp. It is found that average 50% of the population suffer from hair loss. Now straightforward calculation suggests that at least 25% of the population which suffer from hair also suffers from dandruff problem as well.  There are over hundred’s of reasons for a person suffering from hair loss which you can read in the upcoming post.

So is it that there is no hair loss due to dandruff. Well to some extent there is a reason for people to complain. A person who has dandruff feels like scratching the scalp to get rid of the irritation and itching caused by dandruff on the scalp. When he or she does so, obviously they are putting pressure on the hair and weakening them in the process. Yes the hair root weakens when you scratch your scalp to get rid of the irritation or itching caused by the dandruff.  This eventually leads to hair loss.

Also if a person is suffering from chronic dandruff it is a possibility that the hair follicles might get blocked and the hair growth might suffer. Thus we can say that it is not like dandruff is the culprit of hair loss. But it surely increases the risk.

Health Tip: Get rid of the dandruff which is possible. Its not a hereditary thing unlike hair loss. Don’t let you hair fall for the white flakes, don’t let the dead cells on the scalp take a toll where you yourself pluck  hair out.

                              Swimming and Hair Loss

                              Swimming and Hair Loss

In this post we will see if there is any connection between swimming and hair loss . It has been found that there is disproportionate number of bald swimmers.  However to link swimming and hair loss  would require a much solid and scientific reason. Swimming as long as done for a limited period, is not harmful and would not result into hair loss. However when one is swimming for long time in a chlorinated water,  it might affect or accelerate the hair loss of an individual.

                              swimming-pool-and-hair-loss

Swimming pools all over the globe are kept clean using chlorine. Chlorine has disinfectant functionality.  But chlorine is known to be a hard stuff for light colored hair. Some cases where the hair color changed to gray has occurred due to swimming. Chlorine can damage your hair if you stay in the chlorinated water for too long, especially when you allow the chlorinated water which is absorbed in your hair shaft to dry out. This makes your hair weak and might lead to hair loss.

As said before though chlorine keeps the swimmer away from the germs, they are not very good for the hair for they may soak out all the moisture present in the hair. Once the moisture is gone your hair are vulnerable and can be damaged because they become brittle.

Health Tip: To avoid hair loss due to swimming you can use the following tips.

                              • Use a swim cap.
                              • Wash your hair with normal water.
                              • Wash your hair after swimming in chlorinated water with a shampoo which can dissolve the chlorine.

                              Poor Diet and Hair Loss

                              July 28th, 2010

Poor Nutrition or poor diet is one of the reason for hair loss.  Diet is one of the important factor not only for healthy hair but also to a healthy lifestyle.  In this post we will mostly concentrate on what is a poor diet which leads to  hair loss and thus provide a deprives the hair from proper nourishment.

Vitamins that are important to reduce hair loss and should be included in the diet are Vitamin A, B, C and Biotin. Iron, copper, zinc, protein and water are other essential nutrients required by our body to reduce hair loss. A poor diet which leads to hair loss  is the one which doesn’t include any or all of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients mentioned above.  So now we know what vitamin and nutrients are required by our body let us go through the functionality of each of them. Of these we don’t need to describe water which is readily available one should drink plenty of water daily a minimum of two liters.

Vitamin A deficiency and hair loss

Vitamin A plays a vital role in the building strong cells  and tissues on the scalp, as well as the whole body.

Vitamin  B and Copper deficiency and hair loss

Vitamin B6, folic acid and vitamin B12 are the B Vitamins which are important to reduce/avoid hair loss.  These B vitamins help in formation of  hemoglobin for the RBC’s. Hemoglobin carried oxygen through the blood stream to various parts of the body including the scalp to the hair. So if there is deficiency of hemoglobin, there are increased chances of  hair loss.

                              Zinc Deficiency and Hair Loss

Zinc like Vitamin A is known to assist in formation and reproduction of  healthy cells and tissues. A person suffering from hair loss and dandruff surely is deficient of Zinc. Zinc also maintains the sebaceous glands which secret oil towards the hair follicle.

                              Protein Deficiency and Hair Loss

Normal hair growth depends on healthy cells.  All the cells in our body need proteins for being healthy. Without proteins and thus without healthy cells, it will become almost impossible by our body to regrow the new hair.

Less Water intake leads to Hair Loss

Water is the nutrient which helps in transportation of all the above mentioned vitamins and minerals throughout the body including scalp.  This makes water an essential part which can lead to hair loss if not taken in adequate quantity.

                              Helmet and Hair Loss

                              July 26th, 2010

Do you whelmetear a helmet when riding  on bike? Are you afraid of loosing your hair wearing helmet? Then read on this post to get the in detail explanation of hair loss related to helmet usage.

                              Helmet and Hair Loss

                              • The human hair are very weak when they are wet. People generally take a shower before they leave for a ride. Wearing a helmet when the hair is wet increases the chances of hair loss.
                              • Besides a prolonged usage of helmet irritates the scalp and might lead to weak hair on the scalp where the helmet scratches, when you go on a bumpy ride.
                              • The clothing material used as a helmets liner is capable of soaking the moisture from the hair, thus leaving them dry and weak.
                              • Helmet holds a lot of heat when you wear it. Thus the sweating that is caused on the scalp already make your hair weak. Above all if your helmet is loose, it might cause the hair which have become sweaty to move around and maybe fall.

What should one do to prevent helmet hair loss ?

                              1) While removing the helmet one should take that he/she takes off the helmet softly and with both hands. This might avoid the breakage of hair.

                              2) One should always use the helmet liner, bandanna or a scarf before going on a drive.

                              3) Hair does not get wet just after bath. But after your gym, jogging and many other sweat related activities can get your scalp wet. In such cases also the above precautions must be taken.
